GREAT MOVIE AND WONDERFUL SOUNDTRACK
ESPECIALLY FOR MUSIC LOVERS
"Music is all around us, all you have to do is listen."
Drove south to Chickasha, (about an hour from my home town) to enjoy their festival of lights. Was the first time I'd been during the holiday season. It was a lot of fun and well worth the trip. I'm not very good with the settings on my camera for photographing lights at night but here are a few pics.
A fun color enhanced photo. I kind of like the purple and black tone.
A call in to Mike and Susan from the 89.3 Morning Show in Houston, Texas.
Perhaps one of the sweetest broadcasts I've ever heard. This young man Logan (13 yrs old) will touch your heart.
If interested, read more about this including comments and a letter from his mother at this blog link.
One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
"It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked."Oh yeah," said the son."So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father. The son answered:"I saw that we have one dog and they had four.We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a
creek that has no end.We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow their own.We have walls around our property to protect us; they have friends to protect them."The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are."
I spent this past Sunday and Monday at Medicine Park in Western Oklahoma, home of the Wichita Mountains. Not quite the Rockies but what a great little piece of paradise just an hour and 45 minutes from my home town. I took my scooter over on a tailer and didn't get my car out once. The temp was in the 70's both days and couldn't have imagined better weather for riding. I hadn't been to the area in more than 8 years but fell in love with it these past couple days. I will be back more often ~ already planning a trip for next month. Here are some pics:
These two pics are not mine but this is Medicine Creek which runs right through Medicine Park. Every time I went to the creek I didn't have my camera on me as I walked around and shopped in some of the stores. They have beautiful walk ways and bridges over and around the creek area.
Mount Scott from a distance overlooking Lake Lawtonka.
Me at the top of Mt. Scott looking over the lake.
I just kind of like these next two pictures. Still on top of Mt. Scott. ~ Warning I have helmet hair. ~
As the sun was setting on top of Mt. Scott, Sunday October 28, 2007.
An interesting statue made by local artist Robert Dean who specializes in metal sculpting. His work is throughout the area but this was the only picture I had...should have seen the Eagle...amazing!
The rest of these photos are of a nearby spot just outside Medicine Park called The Holy City. Located just inside the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge this 66 acre area looks much like Israel during Biblical times. It's the site of the nation's longest running Easter passion play, "The Prince of Peace". Attendance reached an all-time high in 1939 when 225,000 visitors jammed Audience Hill for the sunrise performance. Other attractions include a memorial for the victims of the Oklahoma City Bombing, a Veterans Walkway, and the World Chapel, reminiscent of an Old World Temple. I hung out here for a couple hours Monday afternoon. It was a peaceful place to pray and reflect.
Last weekend I spent three nights camping at Broken Bow Lake/Beaver's Bend area in Southeastern Oklahoma. I kayaked down the Mountain Fork River and hiked at Robbers Cave (an hour or so drive from the area). I went with a couple gals I've only recently become acquainted with. I cannot think of a better way than camping to get to know the real heart of people. Here are some photos I'll share:
My camping buddies Tere and Lisa. We took a rode trip Saturday over to Robbers Cave. We had a blast in Tere's Jeep you see there in the background ~ on road and off road!
Our view from the door of the tent. We were at Stephen's Gap a little cove on the lake at Bluejay Drive.
The view from the dam on Broken Bow Lake
I scaled up this mass of rock at Robbers Cave. What a thrill!
Me celebrating at the top with shaky legs!
Kayaking at Mountain Fork River. Isn't she beautiful? (the kayak that is) I'm trying her out. Can't decide between the beauty of the hand made wood one or a cheaper plastic one.
Me again amongst the beautiful cypress trees growing right up out of the river. It was so serene!
Sunset at the campsite. We were actually swimming right here just an hour before this photo! YES! Swimming in October in Oklahoma! So refreshing.
Awesome photo I caught of the campfire last night we were there.
I was watching my seven year old daughter fix her hair but not before her doll's hair looked perfect first.
I wondered to myself ~ how did she ever learn how to braid hair? Then I kept wondering...how did my girls ever learn all those "girly" things they know so well?
I'm not a "girly" girl by no means. Make-up is not a daily necessity, I prefer ball caps to fixing my hair and I surely don't know the first thing about braids.
I always thought to myself that I would be a good boy mom, but God in his humorous way blessed me with two girly girls, now becoming little women right before my eyes.
I can't take credit for the feminine qualities they have. My teenager is a master make up artist and can fix her hair a different way each day of the week. She has such an eye for style and always looks like a million bucks.
My youngest, whom amazed me with her knowledge of braiding hair this morning, has such a desire to wear beautiful jewelery; bracelets, rings, necklaces. She feels her best when in a pretty dress, knows just how to apply enough but not too much lip gloss when it's appropriate and where did she ever learn to paint her nails?
God is amazing. How He places such unique qualities and personalities in each of us. But most of all how He always makes sure that He picks up for where we lack!
Thank you Lord for my little women!
Samantha and I had a great time at the State Fair last week. Here are some photos of the Disney on Ice show. It was all about Disney Princess' My favorite costumes were the napkins with the silverware....they were fun! And the best acts were from the Little Mermaid, Sebastian singing Under the Sea and Kiss the Girl. It was a fun time!
